Divider Symbols Copy and Paste

Dividers sit between words or lines and keep a bio tidy. Tap one to copy it, then paste it between two interests, two names or two lines.

Single-character separators

The simplest dividers. Each is one character, so they take almost no space and are safe in most text boxes.

A divider is a small symbol that separates two pieces of text. In a bio it replaces the awkward comma, in a nickname it splits two words, and in a caption it breaks a long line into chunks that are easier to read. Choosing a divider is mostly a decision about mood: a thin bar feels clean, a dot feels calm, and a sparkle feels cute.

The separators below run from the plainest to the most decorated. The first group is single characters that work almost everywhere, including places where fancy symbols are filtered out. The later groups are longer and more decorative, and they are better for the middle of a bio than for a display name.

If you are not sure where to start, pick the middle dot or the vertical bar. They are narrow, they are clear at small sizes, and they are the least likely to be refused by an app that restricts special characters. Then add one decorative divider to a place where you want the eye to rest.

Pairs and trios

Two or three small symbols in a row. A little more presence than a single dot, still tidy.

Cute decorative dividers

Short strips with a symbol in the middle. These are the ones to use when a bio needs a small moment of decoration.

Arrows and pointers

Dividers that lead the eye somewhere: to a link, to the next line, or to the next item in a list.

Vertical and stacked dividers

Dividers made for multi-line bios. Each entry copies as several lines so you can paste it between two blocks of text.

How to use dividers in a bio or a name

  1. Tap a divider to copy it. If you want to try several, tap them and look at the tray, where each pick is kept in order.
  2. In a bio, put the divider between two short phrases, for example an interest on each side of it. Leave a space on both sides so the line can wrap cleanly.
  3. In a display name, use a single-character divider. Longer decorative ones are more likely to be refused or cut off.
  4. Use the stacked dividers between lines, not inside them. Paste the copied block on its own line.
  5. Stick with one divider style across your whole profile so it looks consistent.

Questions people ask

Which divider is safest for usernames?

Single plain characters such as the middle dot, the vertical bar or the slash are the safest, because many apps only allow a small set of punctuation. Even then, rules differ per app, so test it in a display name first.

What is the difference between a divider and a border?

A divider sits between pieces of text on the same line or between two lines. A border frames a whole block of text. Our borders page has the longer strips and the box frames.

Why do some dividers look cut off?

When an app lacks a font with that symbol it may draw part of it or show a box. The simpler characters in the first groups are the most reliable.

Do dividers affect the character count?

Yes. Each symbol counts toward the limit, and some apps count symbols outside the basic alphabet as more than one character. Short dividers help you stay under the limit.
